AFTER a forgettable quarterfinal exit from the Philippine Cup, Talk ’N Text eyes a fresh start in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup where the Texters will be bringing in Richard Howell from the NBA D-League
Howell, listed at 6-foot-8 on the NBA D-League website, played for the Idaho Stampede in the 2013-14 season where he submitted impressive numbers of 18.0 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 34.6 minutes of play.
“We’ve got about a two-week break (after the quarterfinal exit) but at least, we have a longer time to prepare for the second conference with Richard Howell as our new import,” Talk ’N Text team manager Paolo Trillo shared to Spin.ph on Wednesday.
Trillo said the 250-pound Howell is set to arrive on February 10 and will report for Talk ’N Text’s practice on the same day at the Moro Lorenzo gym.
Prior to his 20-game stint with the Stampede, Howell was part of the 19-man roster of the Portland Trail Blazers during the preseason last September.
Howell had one rebound and one assist in his only preseason game before being released by the Blazers and eventually assigned to Idaho.
The well-built Howell played for North Carolina State in college, averaging 12.7 points on 51.8 percent field goal shooting and 63.3 percent from the foul line to go along with 10.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 31.6 minutes during his senior year in the 2012-13 season.
The 23-year-old power forward is a First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection in his last season, ranking fifth all-time in school history with 1,055 rebounds.
