Talk 'N Text eyes back-to-back wins as Blackwater tries to finally stop the bleeding

    Nov 29, 2014

TALK ’N Text tries to somehow boost its slim chances of making it outright to the semifinals, while Blackwater hopes to salvage some pride after being eliminated early as the Texters and Elite clash on Saturday in the Petron-sponsored PBA Philippine Cup at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

The Texters, who enter the match tied for fourth to sixth spots with Barangay Ginebra and defending champion Purefoods Star at 5-3, are coming off a 122-106 win over Barako Bull last week also in Binan.

But the easy win hardly brought a smile on the face of coach Jong Uichico, who felt they need to do a better job defending, rather than just outscoring their opponent.

“I have to ask for more from them (Texters) on defense because we had a good offensive game (against Barako Bull) but we didn’t have a good defensive game,” said Uichico.

The weeklong respite has given Talk ’N Text the time to fine-tune its defense before facing Blackwater at 5 p.m.

The Elite officially bowed out of the tournament following their 72-87 loss to the Energy last Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

With nine straight losses in their maiden PBA season, the only goal left for Blackwater is to try to act as spoiler and hopefully end the season-opening conference with a win.

Beating Talk ’N Text would be a tall order though, considering that Blackwater will be up against a Texters squad that is loaded with veteran players led by Gilas stars Ranidel de Ocampo, Jason Castro, Larry Fonacier and Jimmy Alapag.
