TALK ‘N Text import Richard Howell is expected to miss the team’s final elimination-round game against GlobalPort on Friday to rest his right shoulder, which he hurt during the Tropang Texters’ PBA Commissioner's Cup game against Rain or Shine two days ago.
The 6-8 Howell, a perennial double-double contributor for the Tropang Texters, underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) on Wednesday night after a bad fall late in the first half of the 85-82 win over the Elasto Painters.
They Said It!
“He’s having a hard time lifting his right arm. We don’t know if he aggravated it." Talk N' Text team manager Paolo Trillo
The initial reading showed the import has strained a muscle in his right shoulder.
Howell landed awkwardly on his right shoulder while trying to go hard for a basket, but apparently, may have tripped on the leg of Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee.
Team manager Paolo Trillo said as an added precaution, the wide-bodied Howell will be seeing a should specialist on Thursday afternoon to check if the injury is more serious than initially seen.
“Initial reading of the MRI showed Rich has a strained a muscle on his shoulder, but as of the moment, our team doctor has accompanied him to a shoulder specialist this (Thursday) afternoon just to make sure,” Trillo told Spin.ph.
The soft-spoken Talk ‘N Text manager said the 23-year-old banger also injured his right shoulder during his high school days. The added check up is just a precautionary measure.
“He’s having a hard time lifting his right arm. We don’t know if he aggravated it,” he added.
For the moment, Trillo declined to say if the team is entertaining ideas of finding a replacement or standby import, pending Howell’s extra medical checkup from a shoulder specialist.
“Until we get the doctor’s recommendations, we can’t say, but definitely, Rich has really been a big help to our team,” said Trillo.
Howell, a product of North Carolina State, left the Rain or Shine game prematurely, scoring two points and grabbing nine rebounds in 16 minutes.
The former NBA D-League veteran is averaging 20.5 points, 19.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists for Talk ‘N Text, which is just a win away from sweeping the single round eliminations of the Commissioner’s Cup.
