MERALCO Bolts fans have taken to Twitter to air their plea to management to keep star Solomon Mercado in the wake of a Spin.ph story that he is set to be involved in a multi-team deal.
Mercado himself has confirmed to Spin.ph on Tuesday that he has been informed by Bolts coach Ryan Gregorio of the plan to send him to Globalport in a blockbuster transaction that could involve as much as four other teams.
The Bolts star has been saddened by the news but has aired little of his sentiments on Twitter, instead re-tweeting views about the trade from fans through his account @m3rcmywords.
Most Meralco fans have aired the hope that the trade won't push through, and @BansangMeralco, the Twitter account run by the Bolts diehards, has even started a campaign to keep Mercado in the team through the hashtag #DoNotTradeSol.
One fan, @DELLiriousFan, though, wants Mercado to be traded to Petron instead.
Here are some of the other tweets on the looming trade:
@m3rcmywords 21 ppg and 7 apg last confy then rumored to be traded??? I don't want to live in this planet anymore— Miggy Santos (@itsme_sirmigs) January 30, 2013
Mercado, who led the league in scoring and assists in the Philippine Cup, has been left dejected by the trade news, telling Spin.ph: "I don’t like being traded. I love this team. I wish it may not happen like this, but everything happens for a reason."
There has been no news so far on further developments on the trade, which is expected to be ironed out on the sidelines of the PBA board of governors' planning session in Singapore starting on Wednesday.
