    Guiao will have no problem with stringent officiating, so long as calls are consistent

    RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao doesn’t mind the officiating to be more stringent than in past seasons as long as long as the calls are consistent.

    New commissioner Chito Narvasa has instilled an officiating policy that has gone “back to basics,” with referees strictly enforcing rules, particularly with fouls, during tune-up games in the preseason.

    That could make a huge impact on the Elasto Painters, known for their physical brand of basketball.

    But Guiao is not complaining.

    “Sinabi naman sa amin ni commissioner mismo eh na they will go back dun sa basketball rules na na-implement na naman dati,” he said. “It’s not going to be as physical as the last season.”

    “But sa akin kasi, yung consistency lang yung importante,” he was quick to add.

    Guiao has been vocal in his crusade against inconsistent officiating in the past, with the fiery mentor getting slapped with fines as a result.

    “Okay lang naman din yung last season kung consistent eh, kasi merong tinatawag at merong hindi,” he said. “For this season, if it will help the referees make the calls more consistently, because they are now given less discretion, so if that means making it more consistent, then okay ako dun.”
