CHRIS Banchero admitted he is still considering a basketball career in Italy or a return to the Asean Basketball League, if possible, although he says the PBA is his top priority.

Banchero is weighing those options before deciding on whether to enlist for this year’s PBA rookie draft, but is now focusing on the remainder of his stint with Boracay Rum in the PBA Developmental League.

“At the end of the day, I’m preparing for the PBA. I’m going to do my best in my stint with Boracay,” said Banchero, revealing that he had received feelers to ply his trade overseas.

“We are going to see. I might be going to Italy and I’ve heard some stuff about the ABL,” said Banchero in an interview with Spin.ph right after Boracay Rum’s recent tune-up game against UAAP champions De La Salle Green Archers.

Banchero is a Filipino-Italian who grew up in Seattle before seeing action in the Philippines for the first time when he signed with the San Miguel Beermen in the ABL for two seasons.

Banchero also won the ABL Finals MVP award last season when the Beermen swept the Indonesia Warriors for their first and only title in the Southeast Asian professional cage league.

The wily guard made it clear his first priority is his D-League team Boracay Rum, and he hopes to wrap up his stint with the Waves with a bang.

“My priority right now is Boracay Rum and after taking care of this conference, after that, I’m going to weigh my options. I’ve got a few months to think it over,” said Banchero.

Meanwhile, Blackwater Sports had expressed interest in having Banchero in their lineup as a direct hire in the event the Dioceldo Sy-owned franchise is given the chance to jump to the PBA.

Banchero said he would also love to play for Blackwater Sports, with whom he  has an endorsement contract, if the franchise gets the nod of the PBA board.

“Boss Dioceldo is really a good friend. Hopefully, they get a team there (PBA),” Banchero said.

“Like I said, I’m going to figure out what I’m going to do. I don’t know what the whole direct hire thing is so obviously, my agent will have to figure it out. But I would love to play for boss Dioceldo. Blackwater has been good to me,” he added.
