STAR pounced on a shorthanded GlobalPort, roaring to a 127-100 victory to sustain its resurgence in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Hotshots zoomed to an early against a Batang Pier side missing Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle and never looked back en route to their third successive win - the team's longest win streak under coach Jason Webb.

The win allowed the hotshots to move to .500 with a 4-4 win-loss record.

Ricardo Ratliffe was a force as usual with 28 points and 13 boards as he led a balanced effort that saw six players score in double figures for the Hotshots, who compounded the misery of the cellar-dwelling Batang Pier with a fifth straight loss that dropped them to 2-6.

Allein Maliksi scored 21 points for Star and was spot on from the outside, making five of six shots from beyond the three-point arc.

“When we saw the first few plays, we had a feeling we were going to play great,” Webb said. “The guys just played tremendous defense the entire game.”

The Hotshots, who held the Batang Pier to a paltry 36-percent shooting overall, also clicked on the offensive end as they made 50 of their 90 shots for a blistering 56 percent.

Allein Maliksi typified the torrid shooting, burying five of his six three-pointers to finish with 21 points in 21 minutes off the bench, while Mark Barroca, PJ Simon, and Alex Mallari chipped in two treys apiece.

Marc Pingris bucked a hit on the face by Rico Maierhofer as he still finished with 10 points, 11 boards, and four assists.

The result spoiled another dominant showing by Shawn Taggart, GlobalPort’s replacement import who tallied 37 points and 11 boards.
