STA ROSA, Laguna - Star suffered a major blow in its PBA Governors Cup semifinals series against Meralco as starting guard Paul Lee went down with his old knee injury in Game Two Tuesday night.
Both his legs covered with protectors, Lee walked with an obvious limp as he favored the left knee that has hampered him while still with Rain or Shine before.
Lee started for the Hotshots but played for just three minutes and never returned to the game, which the Hotshots lost, 98-74, to fall 0-2 in the best-of-five series.
“Yung dati kong injury (sa tuhod bumalik),” Lee told SPIN.ph just before the second half.
Lee later added he just forced himself to suit up for Game Two despite hurting the knee during the series opener Sunday.
Unfortunately, he felt some pain the moment he made a quick move early in the game that prompted coach Chito Victolero to pull him out for good.
The 29-year-old combo guard failed to score but did attempt once in his limited action inside the court
"Pinipilit ko na lang talaga ilaro," he said. "Tinatanong ko nga yung PT namin bakit ganun, sabi niya expected na daw yun kasi may slight meniscus tear."
Lee said he has not been practicing with the team as his condition is on a day-to-day basis, although Victolero later disclosed he's definitely out of the series.
Alvin Abundo made the most of Lee's injury as he came off the bench to score 14 points - second highest for the team - in 15 minutes of play.
