    Stanley Pringle says there's room for flamboyant Roi Sumang in GlobalPort backcourt

    Stanley Pringle insists there's room for another flamboyant scorer in rookie Roi Sumang in GlobalPort's crowded backcourt. Jaime Campos

    STANLEY Pringle believes there will hardly be any problems in terms of ball sharing at GlobalPort with the arrival of rookie Roi Sumang.

    Sumang, the Batang Pier’s first pick at 26th overall in this year’s PBA draft, joins a team loaded with fellow flamboyant guards who thrive with the ball in their hands, notably Terrence Romeo and Pringle.

    But Pringle insisted they can all co-existas the Batang Pier seek to make the jump from middle of the pack to the PBA’s elite next season.

    “Definitely,” Pringle said in chat with Spin.ph after practice on Wednesday. “You have to have some mindset of coexisting. It’s a team game and if you want to do well in the team, you have to coexist.”

    “And I think we can,” he added.

    Still, Pringle, pointed out that Sumang, the flashy guard out of University of the East, must first adapt to the system, instead of merely flashing his individual prowess.

    “Everybody has to make an adjustment toward the team,” Pringle said. “You don’t just play your game. With any team you come to, you need to adjust to what the team needs you to do.”

    So far, the sophomore playmaker has seen a lot of positives from their rookies, the other being Philip Paniamogan, who has signed a one-conference contract after making a strong impression in a pocket tournament in General Santos.

    “They’re definitely picking up everything fast, getting in the flow of the offense, and they’ve got good, young legs,” Pringle said.

    The 24-year-old Sumang politely declined to grant Spin.ph an interview.
