GlobalPort backs up darkhorse tag with win over Talk 'N Text in Legazpi City preseason game

    Oct 12, 2014

TOP rookie pick Stanley Pringle and Ronjay Buenafe led a fourth-quarter attack that enabled GlobalPort to pull away for an 88-78 victory over Talk 'N Text in a PBA Liga ng Bayan preseason game on Sunday at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City.

The rookie Pringle and Buenafe, acquired in a trade last season from Barako Bull, buried a three-pointer each that touched off a furious 25-12 exchange that turn what until then was a tight contest into a one-sided affair in the end.

Pringle, who has created quite a buzz in the preseason since being picked by GlobalPort with the No. 1 pick overall in the rookie draft, led the Batang Pier with 24 points on the way to winning Player of the Game honors.

Buenafe chipped in 17 while veteran guard Alex Cabagnot added 15 for the Batang Pier, who this early, are tagged as the darkhorse in the season-opening Philippine Cup kicking off on October 19.

GlobalPort, which played without Terrence Romeo who is in Japan for the Fiba 3x3 World Tour, has been impressive in its Korean trip two weeks ago after compiling a 3-1 win-loss record against selected pro and top collegiate squads in Seoul.

On the other hand, Talk 'N Text is still adjusting to new coach Jong Uichico, who has only been with the team for close to two weeks since returning from Incheon, South Korea after Gilas Pilipinas' Asian Games Campaign.

Jay Washington scored eight points against his former team since being traded to Talk 'N Text last month while newly acquired rookie Kevin Alas added four points.
