BEHIND comebacking import Landry Sanjo, a re-energized Sta. Lucia dealt Biyaheng SCTEX a sound beating, 77-67, in Game 2 of their PCBL Chiarman's Cup best-of-three quarterfinals series at the Marikina Sports Center Sunday.
Also staying alive is Foton, which pulled off a gripping 79-76 overtime victory over Euro-Med to set up a rubber match on Wednesday.
Sanjo provided the inside presence the Realtors needed and anchored his team's interior defense.
Sidelined by a hamstring injury just three games into the tournament, Sanjo finished a rebound away from posting a double-double performance, but more importantly, he was able to defend Raul Soyud, SCTEX's source of strength inside.
Soyud was limited to only 10 markers, one of his lowest outputs in this tournament supported by Spalding, Hahn Manila, Ambucore, During's Barbeque and Restaurant, and LGR.
Sanjo's energy rubbed off on the rest of the locals as Jhaps Bautista, Wowie Escosio, Jett Vidal, Kent Salado and Ivan Camasura provided Sta. Lucia's balance scoring production.
Vidal poured in his nine points in the fourth period, all coming from beyond the arc to spark Sta. Lucia's breakaway. The Realtors posted their biggest lead of the game, 73-57, and were never seriously threatened from there.
Earlier, Levi Hernandez shattered his old mark for most points scored in a single game as his 36-point performance was enough to carry Foton to the win.
The Toplander will face Euro-Med in a rubber match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. right after another do-or-die encounter between Sta. Lucia and SCTEX in the first game at 5 p.m.
