[Editor's note: SPIN.ph puts the spotlight on the top Philippine athletes who stood out with stacked stat lines in the past week.]
Poy Erram [14.3 points, 16.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks in 3 games] Erram closed his breakout stint in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup with a bang, putting up double-doubles in three of four PBA game-days and leading Blackwater to winning two of its final three elims assignment. Erram proved that not even the tiring schedule the Elite had the past week could slow him down.
Kelly Nabong [21 pts, 12 rebs, 2.5 blks in 2 games] Another surprise this Philippine Cup is Nabong, who has thrived under GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio. The Batang Pier big man has shown he’s more than just a bruiser, giving the team enough firepower to overcome the absence of top gun Terrence Romeo and put GlobalPort in playoff contention. And in the win over KIA on Wednesday, he even came up huge on defense with five blocks.
Jaja Santiago [27 points from 20 kills, four blocks, three service aces vs La Salle] The graduating NU star has certainly been imposing her will against the competition, dominating the defending champion La Salle team last Sunday to keep the Lady Bulldogs unbeaten this season.
Marck Espejo [31 points from 26 kills, three blocks, two service aces vs Adamson] The Ateneo spiker put on a show with his best scoring performance of the season so far on Wednesday. Espejo’s explosion helped the Blue Eagles remain unscathed in four outings.
Arwind Santos [21 pts, 14 rebs, 4 asts, 3 blks, 2 stls] In case anyone forgot, Santos served a reminder that he remains one of the elite stat-stuffers in Philippine basketball after an all-around performance in SMB’s win over Alaska last Saturday. His stat line would have been perfect if not for his five turnovers and his 2-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc.
