DESPITE playing without some of its top guns, Rain or Shine looked sharper than ever during the PBA preseason.

Even with Jericho Cruz and Raymond Almazan sitting out, the Elasto Painters managed to emerge on top of a four-team pocket tourney weeks before the season opener.

It didn't come as a surprise for head coach Caloy Garcia. After all, Rain or Shine is a squad that doesn't really rely on a player or two to win a match.

But while that speaks volumes about the character of the Elasto Painters, Garcia wants to see one more thing from his wards.

"Basically, consistency," said Garcia when asked what they still need to improve on. "We're looking for our players to be consistent."

With an intact lineup bolstered by rookie Rey Nambatac, that doesn't seem like a long shot.

But whether they reach that level of consistency or not, Garcia is confident his squad has become a lot better in more ways than one.

"Lalaban kami. We're gonna try to do better than we did last season," he said.
