HE’S afraid of no import. He’s not one to back down from any opponent as he’s up for any challenge. But San Miguel big man June Mar Fajardo will fold anytime, at any given moment when it comes to his mom.

The three-time PBA MVP and Gilas Pilipinas stalwart shared to SPIN.ph how he instantly turns into a gentle giant when it comes to his Mama Marites Fajardo.

Although it was never his nature to be a bully while he was growing up, even if he has grown much bigger than anyone, a young June Mar would wish he could vanish when Mama Marites is waiting for him with a stick in her hand, ready to serve him a whipping for cutting classes.

“Doon talaga takot ako sa mama ko,” he said. “Napapalo niya ako dati kasi pasaway din kasi ako mula noong elementary ako hanggang high school ako.”

June Mar, or Dong as his Mama Marites fondly calls him, revealed how his mother would go to school almost every day for a meeting with his teachers because he was often caught cutting classes.

“Laging umiiyak ang mama ko kasi nga lagi akong nagka-cutting classes,” he said.

From a ‘pasaway’ kid to a dominant figure in the PBA, June Mar would always think of Mama Marites whenever he’s in the middle of a heated situation.

One of his ways to make his mom stop crying was to stay away from everything that would make her worry – be it a minor injury, a cut in the head, a scuffle, an earring or a tattoo.

Ayaw niya na maghikaw ako, ayaw niya na may tattoo so wala talaga,” he added.

The doting son vowed that if he ever makes Mama Marites cry again, it would be tears of joy.

June Mar said he's no longer ashamed to tell the world that he’s one big mama’s boy.

Kaya ngayon, gusto kong bumawi sa kahit anong paraan,” he said.

Although he swore that he his immature ways are behind him, June Mar admitted pulling off some of his old tricks at times.
