FOR THOSE who may feel that they are not having enough PBA games, how about having three games in one day?

That scenario looms in the coming Commissioner’s Cup conference after the PBA added one more team, a guest squad, raising the number to 13, creating a scheduling chaos that may force the league to have a triplebill instead of its usual twinbill in some of its playing days.

SPIN.ph has learned from sources that by adding one team in the mid-season, import-laden tournament, the playing schedule has to be reconstituted to prevent the season from extending beyond its normal schedule.

It has always been a PBA tradition to finish the season in December, but with guest team Macau Black Bears added to the mix, the best way to avoid this scenario is to play a triplebill, said a source.

It isn’t clear yet if a triple header will be played every game day, but its already certain that there will be days when three games will be played.

“Kailangan kasing gawin na ganun 'yung schedule para matapos yung season in time for December,” said one of the sources.

The PBA has yet to release the schedule of the Commissioner’s Cup, but the same source added that the new schedule has already been finalized and has gotten the approval of the league's board of governors.

“Otherwise kung same schedule ang gagawin, baka January na next year matapos itong season,” said the source.

Playing with more than two games in a day, however, has been done before. It happened during the pandemic when the PBA had what it called a bubble conference in Clark, Pampanga during which the PBA held not only tripleheaders but quadruple ones at the Angeles University Foundation.

Back then, the league had to change the schedule during the second half of the eliminations as matches were postponed a few times in compliance with the health protocols recommended by the IATF or the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Jollibee fielding its PVL team?

The rumor is not true.

Jollibee is not joining the Philippine Volleyball League (PVL) anytime soon, or even in the near future, said a top league official when asked to confirm a report by the Bilyonaryo website.

While several parties have expressed interest in joining the PVL, the fast food giant is not among them.

No official of Jollibee Foods Corporation has approach the league to inquire about participating in the country's very popular professional volleyball league although there were some reports that Jollibee is tantalized by the prospect of making a first appearance in a sports league.

For the record though, Jollibee has not put up a sports team, amateur or professional, in the past.

PVL president Ricky Palou confirmed that the company has yet to reach out to league officials.

“Not that I know of. Wala namang lumapit sa amin galing Jollibee,” he told SPIN.ph.

In recent months, Black Mamba Energy Drink and Cebu Landmasters have reportedly shown interest in joining the league.

In the ongoing 2026 All-Filipino Conference, the league features a 10-team field composed of four sister-team pairs and two independent squads.

The league lost two teams following the disbandment of Cherry Tiggo and Petro Gazz at the end of last season and is reportedly busy trying to recruit replacements to restore its 12-team format.- John Mark Garcia
