CHICAGO- With a 5-5 won-lost record in the ongoing PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup, Magnolia doesn’t look like title acontender.
If anything, the Hotshots are largely benign and mostly vulnerable.
Hobbled by an 0-3 start, Magnolia ran into import problems as it went through Terrell Brown-Soares and Nuni Omot before finally settling with Clint Chapman.
None of this reinforcement instability probably wouldn’t have happened had the chicken giant landed the prized asset who is currently making waves elsewhere.
BOL MANUTE BOL.
According to multiple sources, Magnolia had the opportunity to sign the former NBA player for $90,000 a month including perks and bonuses.
It’s unclear why the deal fell through but the price point was the likely culprit.
Bol eventually signed with playoffs-bound TNT where he is averaging 37.2 points and 15.3 rebounds through 10 games.

Just to be clear, the salary cap for imports in the PBA is pegged at $25,000, according to an agent. But no rules are broken because there are liberties allowed through bonuses and incentives.
Bol, I am told, rakes around $120,000 a month with the Tropang 5G. It’s not overly expensive, it’s merely fair market value for Bol.
HIGH PROFILE, HIGH VALUE.
During his five-year, 202-game NBA stint, Bol cashed in $10.5 million in salaries, per BasketballReference.com.
In the 2024-25 season alone with the Phoenix Suns, the son of Manute Bol got $2 million for the season or roughly $57,972 a game for the 36 games he played.

While Bol’s services are costly, he is worth the investment because of the media mileage he brings as a walking, breathing billboard for the TNT brand.
I wonder how the light-footed 7-foot-3 freak of nature would look like in a blue, white and yellow Magnolia jersey.
We will never know.
