WEDNESDAY will be a busy day for Bennie Boatwright.

Boatwright will attend two important occasions, one is formal, the other not so much, but equally very important. On that day, at 10 a.m., the San Miguel import will be at the Senate where the Justice and Human Rights Committee will discuss a bill that would give him Philippine citizenship.

Later in the day, Boatwright will head to nearby Ninoy Aquino Stadium to join San Miguel when it resumes its PBA 50th Season Philippine Cup campaign against Terrafirma.

In anticipation of Boatwright's hearing process dragging on beyond schedule, the PBA decided to move the game of the Beermen from being the first match at 5:15 p.m. to the second game at 7:30 p.m.

Basketball stakeholders are hoping that Boatwright's naturalization is approved as soon as possible so he can play for the Philippine team in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan starting September 19.- Reuben Terrado

SPIN.ph learned that the PNVF was represented by its legal counsel, who attended Monday’s rescheduled session and formally opened settlement discussions with de Brito’s camp.

At the center of the dispute are claims of unpaid salaries and bonuses, along with what de Brito’s side claimed were 'illegal deductions' made during his tenure with the national team.

During the meeting, the PNVF’s lawyer requested an additional week to consult with the federation’s board regarding a possible settlement.

De Brito’s camp agreed to the extension, expressing optimism ahead of the next round of talks.

“We hope that she can enlighten the PNVF of the force and integrity of contractual obligations,” de Brito’s camp said.

Meanwhile, sources said one of the program’s foreign conditioning coaches has finally received payment after a six-month delay, a development de Brito’s camp hopes signals progress in resolving the broader issue. - John Mark Garcia
