A PROMINENT businessman, also known as an avid sportsman, is set to acquire a major stake in a PBA team.

SPIN.ph is witholding the names of the businesss/sportsman and the PBA team as negotiations are still being finalized. Sources said a few minor details are still being ironed out which, when finally settled, will give the billionaire a controlling stake in the company.

The entry of the official is expected to infuse fresh funds into the franchise that insiders said is going through some financial difficulties.

The setup could be similar to what the Phoenix Fuel Masters had with the Escandor family, which, sources say, acquired a share of the PBA franchise after buying a substantial share of the Phoenix stocks.

The expected entry of a new majority stockholder has been cited as one reason why trade talks involving the ballclub prior to the PBA Governors' Cup have suddenly been put on hold as the team expects the new partner to have a say in players movements. - Gerry Ramos

Why PVL on Tour has no television coverage

THE absence of the PVL on Tour games on One Sports and Cignal's television platforms has left fans wondering why the league's preseason caravan is only available online.

According to a league source, the answer is simple: the PVL on Tour is not part of the league's television broadcast agreement with its official TV coveror.

"Under negotiation siya eh, pero hindi kasi talaga part 'yung 'On Tour' sa Cignal [TV broadcast]. Parang special edition kasi 'to eh," the source told SPIN.ph.

The PVL on Tour, which kicked off in Ilagan on Wednesday, is a preseason caravan and not an official conference. Batangas will host the next event on Saturday.

Because this is not an official event, the source said the finer details for a television arrangement had to be ironed out much later, leading to the decision to stream the matches live online instead for now.

"May coverage tayo, hindi lang tayo sa TV,” the source added.

Instead of a television broadcast, all PVL on Tour matches will be streamed live for free through the One Sports YouTube channel, similar to how the network handled select regular season PBA games and various international sporting events in recent months.

The setup is expected to cover the entirety of the preseason tour, which features exhibition matches across multiple host cities as teams prepare for the league's next conference while also giving provincial fans a chance to watch the country's top clubs up close. - John Mark Garcia
