NEGOTIATIONS have started on a deal that could bring hard-nosed Barako guard Ronald Tubid to the Petron Boosters in exchange for Joseph Yeo has started, sources from the two teams bared.
Sources said talks between the two teams started on Wednesday and gained ground over the day, with Tubid and Yeo likely to switch sides before the Commissioner's Cup begins on February 8.
A deal may even be struck before the Sinulog Festival in Cebu held annually on the third Sunday of January, a source added.
The trade makes sense for the two teams, with Barako needing a young go-to guy of Yeo's caliber and the underachieving Boosters wanting a relentless enforcer like Tubid that could bring up the team's energy.
If the talks prosper, Yeo, who is also coveted by Air21, will end up reuniting with former Petron consultant Rajko Toroman, who is set to call the shots for the Energy Cola in the import-laced tournament.
“Natunugan yata ng Barako na gusto rin ng Air 21 si Yeo, kaya siguro umusad ulit ang negosasyon," said a source.
For his part, Tubid said he is happy at Barako Bull but has come to accept that trades are part of a pro cager's life, saying he's become so used to hearing about trade rumors in his 10 years in the pro league.
“Sanay na ko sa ganyan. Kung saan naman ako dalhin, lalaro ako. Basta may playing time”, said the heavily tattoed native of Oton, Iloilo.
“Pero alam mo happy ako dito sa Barako Bull. Masaya ang samahan. Na-develop ko na friendship ko sa kanila, saka magaling mag-alaga ang mga boss namin,” said Tubid who has been with the George Chua-owned franchise for two seasons.
