NASH Racela declined the offer of a head coaching job at Globalport, according to a source close to the Far Eastern University mentor.
The source confirmed there were initial talks between Racela and the Batang Pier, who were in search for a new coach to replace Junel Baculi.
Racela on the other hand, serves as one of Norman Black’s deputies at Talk `N Text.
“He refused the offer,” the source said.
Racela neither confirmed nor denied the offer of Globalport management.
“Better if may announcement sila,” said Racela, whose previous coaching stint in the pros was with the Batangas Blades in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association.
Racela refusing the offer ended the chance of reuniting him with former Far Eastern University players RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo, who played under him in his first season with the Tamaraws in the UAAP.
Garcia and Romeo were both selected by the Batang Pier in the first round of the draft last week after steering the Tamaraws to a Final Four return in Season 76.
Globalport obtained the chance to pick Garcia and Romeo in a trade with Barako Bull.
Incidentally, Globalport interim coach Richie Ticzon, called the shots for the Batang Pier during their tune-up game against Alaska last Saturday. Ticzon served as Racela’s assistant at FEU last season.
