ROOKIE Sonny Estil is now officially a ka-barangay.
The unheralded big man was formally signed to a one-year contract by the Kings on Monday, less than a week before the 50th season of the PBA kicks off.

Estil, the No. 11 overall pick in the last draft, was with representative Danny Espiritu when he signed his first-ever PBA contract.
Barangay Ginebra assistant team manager Rayboy Rodriguez represented governor and team manager Alfrancis Chua, who is currently in the U.S.

Estil admitted during last week's Media Day that he already secured his released papers from MPBL team Pampanga Giant Lanterns.
The Draft Combine MVP also said he's really surprised with the attention being given him by avid Barangay Ginebra supporters.
"Pagbukas ko ng picture, halos mukha ko yung nakikita ko, e," Estil timidly said.
But coach Tim Cone said Estil has been under Ginebra's radar since getting a glimpse of him during the Draft Combine.
"He’s a kid that has a lot of potential, he’s athletic, he runs the floor well, he gets to the basket well, he got good size for his position which is important. And we just really felt he has a high upside," said Cone.
"So it’s a great story, a guy coming from nowhere and then ended up being a first round pick with Ginebra, I hope he ends up with a happy ending, you know he earns his spot, and he becomes a really good player for us . That will be a great ending to a great story."
Well, the story has only began.
