SOL Mercado has been given the go signal to play for Barangay Ginebra in a game against Columbian Dyip in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday - three days after suffering a rib injury in a win over Magnolia.
The 34-year-old Fil-Am guard joined the Kings in their practice at the Upper Deck Sports Center in Ortigas on Tuesday and said he’s ready to go against the Dyip in their 7 p.m. encounter at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s just a bruised rib,” Mercado said when asked about the injury suffered late in the Kings’ game against the Magnolia Hotshots Sunday. “(But) yes, I am (playing).”
Mercado fell on the Big Dome floor while grasping for air as he favored his rib area during the fourth quarter of the Ginebra-Magnolia duel at the Big Dome after an inadvertent elbow from Paul Lee.
Mercado was immediately taken by coach Tim Cone out of the game and never returned.
The Kings nonetheless, won the game 104-84, to enhance their bid for a quarterfinal berth.
