NORTHPORT guard Sol Mercado suffered a sprained ankle in his right foot in Barangay Ginebra's win on Monday night and will be doubtful for Game Three of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals.
Mercado sustained the injury after stepping on the foot of LA Tenorio while contesting a three-point shot with 3:34 left in the third quarter. Ginebra went to win, 113-88, to level the playoff to 1-all.
NorthPort team manager Bonnie Tan said the initial diagnosis was a sprain, but is already bracing for the possibility that Mercado will be sitting out Game Three based on how Mercado struggled to walk after the injury.

Mercado needed the help of teammates Christian Standhardinger and Sean Anthony in order to get back on the bench before limping off to the dugout.
It was no different after the game as Mercado was also aided by two NorthPort personnel on his way out of the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Mercado only played for six minutes and scored just two points, in contrast to his performance in Game One where he had 14.
Tenorio is hoping for the best on the fitness of Mercado, a former teammate with Ginebra for four years before being traded to NorthPort.
“Hindi ko alam ‘yung nangyari. Siguro malala ‘yun kasi talagang nag-twist. Sabi ko nga sa referee, ako dapat ang foul kasi ako ang natapakan,” said Tenorio.
“I hope na hindi naman serious ‘yung kay Sol kasi mahirap din na mawala. They are really playing good basketball. Mahirap ‘yung may nawawala sa team especially si Sol na one of the vets na nandoon sa NorthPort na sanay sa playoff basketball.
"I hope it’s not serious,” said Tenorio.
