Ginebra officials get ball rolling on plan to tap 'Yaya Dub' as muse in PBA opening

    Aug 15, 2015

THE country’s most popular ballclub having the hottest personality in local television today as its muse on opening night of the 41st season of the PBA?

Barangay Ginebra, and the two other teams under the San Miguel Corp. umbrella for that matter, are open to tapping the phenomenal ‘Yaya Dub’ of Eat Bulaga fame as muse when they parade during the opening of Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league in October.

League chairman Robert Non, who is basketball operations head of the SMC franchise, welcomed the idea brought to his attention by the clamor of Ginebra fans to have as muse the star of Eat Bulaga’s popular ‘Kalyeserye’ where she and Alden Richards form the love team ‘AlDub.’

But just like any company protocol, Non said everything should go through the SMC marketing department, which is usually in charge of listing and choosing potential muses of all teams under the San Miguel group.

“Sa marketing namin talaga naka-toka yan. And the usual practice is kung sino yung calendar girl ng Ginebra for the year ang kadalasang kinukuha nila na muse,” the San Miguel Beer board of governor told

“Pero puwede ‘yun. I will tell it to Al (Chua, Ginebra alternate board of governor), and maybe we can suggest it.”

Chua later wrote on his Twitter account @alfrancischua that Ginebra will try its best to grant the fans’ clamor, saying he will forward the idea to the team’s marketing department as Non earlier said.

“Mga ka barangay susubukan natin ibigay ang idea sa marketing para makuha natin si YAYA DUB para muse ng ginebra,” wrote Chua.

Non said he’ll also endorse the idea to San Miguel and Star if the SMC marketing department has other plans for Ginebra.

Maine Mendoza in real life, Yaya Dub rose to fame for her videos on Dubsmash, a video messaging app that allows a person to choose a known voice clip which they can dub.

But it was her daily appearance in the country’s No. 1 noon time show which turned her into a phenomenon, with her ‘Kalyeserye’ portion with Richards and the wacky Lola Nidora, played by comedian Wally Bayola, the most highly-awaited portion of the program.

PBA chief statistician and columnist Fidel Mangonon III tweeted on his account @thepbaologist that Yaya Dub will be one of the most sought after muses for the coming PBA opening ceremony.

“Mukhang pag-aagawan na as muse ng mga teams for #PBASeason 41 opening ang mga to. Highest
    bidder haha,” wrote Mangonon.
