HISTORY beckoned San Miguel as it reached unprecedented heights with its fifth straight all-Filipino conference triumph this 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
And with that feat also comes with pressure, as the Beermen now have to live with the reality that they have to prove from hereon out that they are indeed one of the top teams the league has ever seen.
But for San Miguel Corporation (SMC) sports director Alfrancis Chua, what makes San Miguel successful is the team blending well despite its differences.
"Iba-iba man ang pinanggalingan ng mga ito, iisa lang ang ginawa nila. Iba talaga ang may pinagsamahan," he said as the team celebrated its triumph at the SMC Compound in Mandaluyong on Monday night.
Continued success, however, leads to more cracks at the history books as for the fifth time, the Beermen will try to replicate what the franchise did back in 1989: a rare Grand Slam feat.
And that reality wasn't lost on San Miguel Brewery president Bobby Huang.
"Isa lang ang hiling ko sa inyo, isang Grand Slam lang," he implored the team.
So, can SMB do it? Only time will tell.
