SAN Miguel settles for a new import in EJ Anosike as replacement for the injured Jordan Adams heading to the PBA Governors’ Cup playoffs.
Anosike was officially measured Wednesday or 24 hours before the Beermen take to the court against Converge FiberXers at the start of their best-of-five quarterfinals at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Coach Jorge Gallent said former import Cameron Clark was also considered for the job, but already signed up with a Hong Kong team.
“We tried Cam. But he already decided to (play) for Hong Kong,” said the San Miguel mentor.
Clark suited up for San Miguel in last season’s Governors’ Cup and led the team all the way to the semifinals, where it eventually lost to Barangay Ginebra via a sweep.
“Cam is out of the list because he signed for another team na,” said Gallent.
Clark was earlier also eyed by Blackwater to replace Ricky Ledo, but a family emergency forced the Bossing to look for another replacement that led to George King.
Anosike hopefully would turn out fine for the Beermen since per league rules, they can no longer bring back Adams after he was initially replaced by Sheldon Mac, who as it turned, didn’t fit the San Miguel system.
Team manager Gee Abanilla said it would be hazardous if the team would play Adams in the playoffs, where teams are going to play every other day.
Adams strained his hamstring in the Beermen's game against Rain or Shine.
"Adams’ hamstring is still tight and could tear if plays it. Doctors advised to rest it and have treatments,” said Abanilla in a text message.
