SAN Miguel veteran Ronald Tubid admitted punching the person in a Spiderman costume, but said he was only defending his teammate during the strange incident that marred Game Five of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
A streaker in a Spiderman costume came running down the court at the Smart Araneta Coliseum late in Game Four between San Miguel and Magnolia, showing a paper with the message, ‘Vote, Love. Love PBA. Love Philippines.’
The man, who appeared in his 20s, collided with June Mar Fajardo, who was hit in the face causing him to fall down on the floor.
After the man was collared and escorted out by Big Dome bouncers, the 37-year-old Tubid was seen throwing a punch at the person in the hallway leading to the dugouts before security pacified the San Miguel player.
The scene was witnessed by media.
Tubid apologized for punching the person, but made it clear he was only defending Fajardo after he was blindsided by the streaker.
“Siguro, dala lang ng init ng ulo,” said the 16-year veteran. “Momentum na namin eh. Instead na tuluy-tuloy, ang outcome natalo pa kami ng two points. So parang ‘yung galit na ‘yun, bakit nangyari ‘yun. Nasaktan ‘yung big man namin.
“Pagdating sa team namin, nagdilim ‘yung paningin ko. Hindi ko lubos matanggap na bakit. As a veteran, kailangan ko ipagtanggol ‘yung teammate ko. ‘Yun lang.”
“Pero ‘yung nasuntok ko, sorry,” said Tubid.

Tubid said the person also needs understanding.
“Hindi natin alam kung ano nasa mind ng tao. Sa nagawa ko, ako na mismo humihingi ng sorry kasi mali rin. There is something wrong with his mind. I don’t know kung sira ulo ba o ano. Kailangan maintindihan. Sorry sa nagawa ko,” said Tubid.
