CEBU CITY – GlobalPort scoring machine Terrence Romeo said indecisiveness at crunctime cost GlobalPort game against San Miguel in the PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at the Hoopsdome in Lapu-Lapu City.
Speaking an hour after their 100-106 loss to the Beermen which dropped them to a five-way tie for second place in the standings, Romeo said they can't afford to be hesitant to make plays, especially at crunchtime, against a poised team like San Miguel.
The former Far Eastern University star was obviously steaming over two late possesions where the Batang Pier coughed up the rock twice - turnovers which the Beermen deftly converted into two straight baskets that padded the SMB lead from three to seven.
“Next time, hindi na pwede mag-commit ng those kinds of turnovers kasi dun nade-determine kung kaya ba namin mag-finish strong or hindi. Dapat nandoon ang good decisions,” said Romeo in a talk after the game at Cebu’s newest sports hub, the League Sports Bar.
“Kailangan decisive kami. Kung tira mo, itira mo. Kung pasa mo, ipasa mo. Hindi raw pwede maging tentative kasi kung ganoon, yung San Miguel na ang nagdi-dictate sa laro namin,” added Romeo, who was loudly applauded by Cebuano fans since he traces his roots to the town of Boljoon.
Though he managed to score 16 points on 4-of-14 shooting, it was still a far cry from his conference-leading average of 26.3. The spunky guard said it was a result both of San Miguel’s defense and foul trouble.
“Hindi ko nakuha rhythm ko dahil sa foul trouble. Kaya ayun, kasi di ko nakuha yung rhythm ko, kunin ko na lang muna sa pag-involve sa mga kasama ko.
"Nung third hinanap ko talaga sila para yung depensa lumuwag sakin. Nung nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon, umiskor na rin. Nakuha ko na rin yung flow ko pero ayun, short pa rin,” said Romeo of his spectacular third quarter showing where he wowed the crowd with his fancy ball-handling, pinpoint dime-dropping and even a rare four-point play.
With the race for second place still wide open, Romeo implored the rest of the Batang Pier to take care of business.
“We have to take care of our business. Hindi puwede namin tingnan kung ano mangyayari sa ibang teams. Talunin namin ang dapat namin talunin,” Romeo quipped.
“Talk N Text at Rain or Shine ang susunod namin na kalabanin, hindi magiging madali to.”
