SAN Miguel import Charles Rhodes and TNT KaTropa counterpart Donte Greene figured in a spirited face-off that at times became physical on Friday night.
The final words from Rhodes were just as fiery after the game.
'He's scared to guard me, though. I guard him but he won't guard me. Don't talk trash to me if you won't guard me. Been telling him the whole game, 'guard me, guard me' whatever," said Rhodes.
"He didn't challenge me. He's scared to guard me. I'm not scared to guard him," he added.
Rhodes finished with a game-high 43 points to go along eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots, but Greene and TNT had the final say by dealing the Beermen a 112-103 defeat.
Greene wasn't bad either. The 29-year-old finished with 41 points on top of 21 boards and four assists as he towed TNT to its sixth win in games, ending the Beermen's winning run at five games in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
But Rhodes insisted Greene couldn't have put up those numbers had he spent some energy guarding him. Kelly Williams and Mo Tautuaa took turns in putting a body on Rhodes in a ploy that seem to have worked for in the KaTropa's favor.
"I played more minutes, this is the most minutes I played. So I was real fatigued. He kept sitting back, he won't guard me and that's why he's getting all those points cause he was fresh."
Ever the competitor, Rhodes said he's looking forward to another crack at Greene and TNT.
That would be one interesting match-up.
"I hope we meet them in the playoffs, finals, semifinals or something. I want to play them again for sure," Rhodes continued. "We'll have my man (June Mar Fajardo) back and we'll have Matt (Ganuelas Rosser) so it will be great. I definitely want them again."
