ANTIPOLO City – San Miguel hopes Jericho Cruz would be available in its must-win game against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday after the bruising guard came down with a right foot ankle sprain in Game 5.

Cruz suffered the injury early in the fourth period following a rebound play off a missed shot by the Beermen, who lost the game, 121-92.

The guard out of Adamson had to be carried out by teammates on the way to the bench and never returned.

Two San Miguel staff also had to help him on his way out of the Ynares Center after the game as he walked favoring his hurting ankle.

Team physical therapist Edward Bacason confirmed it was a sprained ankle which Cruz suffered.

    “Medyo may swelling,” said Bacason.

Cruz wasn’t certain if he stepped on someone’s foot although Scottie Thompson and Maverick Ahanmisi were beside him when he went down, grimacing in pain.

“Hindi rin siya (Cruz) sigurado kung may naapakan nga siya,” added Bacason.

Thompson said he wasn’t aware either about the incident after he grabbed the rebound that led to a Ginebra basket off a transition.

“Hindi ko nga rin alam e. Nakita ko na lang na nasa floor siya. Hindi ko nga alam na na-injured siya,” said Thompson later.

Cruz finished with three points, two rebounds, and two assists in 25 minutes of play.
