ANTIPOLO – Chris Ross walked on his own when he left the Ynares Center, a far cry from his situation just moments earlier when he had to be carried by his teammates after he injured his right knee in the second quarter.

Deep inside, Ross is bracing for the worst.

Ross hurt his right knee without contact in San Miguel’s 87-81 win over Magnolia on Friday. Despite being assisted by his teammates on his way back to the dugout, Ross stayed on the Beermen's until the final buzzer.

“I feel fine right now. But I got to go and get a check-up, make sure everything is well hopefully. Hopefully, I’m good and get back in a short amount of time,” said Ross in an interview with reporters after the game.

“But in situations like this, you got to hope for the best. That’s what I’m doing right now,” said Ross.

Ross said he just went for a lay-up when he “felt something” on his way up.

“I didn’t feel a pop. I just felt something. Right now, I feel fine. I don’t feel any pain. They just have me in a brace. But I’m fine. I don’t feel any pain,” said Ross, just one of a couple of injuries that occurred at the Ynares Center over the past few playdates.

“Got to. You kinda have to,” said Ross, when asked if he is also preparing for the worst. “Hopefully, everything goes in our favor, my favor. Whether it be out for an extended period of time, I’m going to work hard and try to get back. If not, I’m going to work hard, still be around with the team, and we will figure it out.”

Ross said he is glad to see his team come out with the win against a gutsy Magnolia team a spate of SMB injuries that had also sidelined Vic Manuel and Terrence Romeo.

“We are not the only team. The good thing about being on San Miguel is next man up. We have so many talented players. You saw what Jericho [Cruz] did when he kinda took over the PG and Simon [Enciso] is capable of playing [the position].

“Simon is going to play well, we got Robbie [Herndon], he just came in, Von [Pessumal], we got a lot of guys who are ready to step up. In fact, if I have to miss an extended period of time, we have plenty of guys who are ready to step up,” said Ross.
