IT may seem to be a statement game San Miguel displayed in its 116-96 demolition of Alaska on Wednesday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
But for Alex Cabagnot, who had the hot hands in the Beermen’s 20-point drubbing of the aces, it was but just another day at the office for the team.
“I hope we continue to play collectively like this as a team,” said the combo guard, who topscored for the San Miguel locals with 22 points.
“Kasi mabigat na yung mga kalaban namin coming up and then we have the (Holy Week) break. So it’s important for us to go into the break with a win.”
The Beermen won’t see action again until Easter Sunday when they go up against Star Hotshots, followed by the highly-anticipated duel with Barangay Ginebra a week later.
But in this rematch between the protagonists that disputed the last Philippine Cup title, Cabagnot showed he’s ready for the big challenge ahead as he knocked in 5 of 8 from three-point range and 7 of 12 from the field overall. He also had six assists.
The Beermen shot 17 of 37 from downtown.
He did credit backcourt partner Chris Ross for making life a bit easy for him.
“I’ve always been comfortable playing with him since the Petron days,” said Cabagnot of Ross, who finished with 14 points, 12 assists, and six rebounds. “I know he’s been like that (before). Maybe you’re just noticing him right now but I know him to be that way even before.”
