It appears June Mar Fajardo's hand injury is more serious than initially anticipated.
San Miguel management is now awaiting an official prognosis on the injury amid fears that the seven-time MVP had suffered a fracture hand.
SMB team manager Gee Abanilla said the Beermen are now seeking the opinion of some hand specialists to see the extent of the injury.
"Suspected fracture, e," Abanilla said a day after San Miguel's 115-110 win over Rain or Shine in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
"Just waiting for the official prognosis."
Fajardo hurt his hand as he tried to stop Rain or Shine rookie Adrian Nocum while he went strong for a basket in the second half.
After being recalled to the bench, the Cebuano big man still returned to the court in the fourth quarter with his left hand taped-up.
Coach Jorge Gallent eventually decided to take him out of the game for good and the Beermen went on to pull off a scrambling 115-110 win over the gritty Elasto Painters.
After the game, the 6-foot-10 Fajardo played down the injury, although he went straight to the hospital from the Smart Araneta Coliseum to have his hand checked.
"Malayo ito sa bituka," he said. "Hindi naman siguro to major. Aksidente lang."
Fajardo, who finished with 16 points in San Miguel's third straight win, said he looks forward to taking a rest as the Beermen won't be playing again until Dec. 8.
But it could turn out to be a longer rest for the Cebuano big man.
"We're still waiting for the opinion of the hand specialist," said Abanilla.
