IT looks like it won't be an easy start for the San Miguel Beermen in the coming PBA Governors’ Cup.
Sources told SPIN.ph that injuries have set back the preparations of the league’s most dominant ballclub, with team captain Arwind Santos undergoing atrhoscopic surgery on Saturday to repair damaged tissues in his left knee.
Santos reportedly has been complaining of chronic pain in his knee, prompting management to immediately schedule a surgery at the St. Luke’s Global City in Taguig.
“We needed to clean his knee of loose bodies, mga tissues and bone fragments. Arthroscopic debridement. Nothing serious though,” said an SMB official.
He will miss the team’s activities in the next four to six weeks, which forward Gabby Espinas will also likely skip after undergoing the same procedure.
“Gabby also went under the knife, cleansing of the knee like that of Arwind,” said the source.

Meanwhile, wingman Chris Lutz and big man Yancy De Ocampo will also be sidelined because of back problems.
Lutz is battling a lingering back spasm that slowed him down this season while De Ocampo is also saddled with back issues. Both will be out indefinitely.
Meanwhile, Marcio Lassiter has been back in harness for the Beermen after begging off from the Gilas Pilipinas pool because of illness, taking part in the team’s tune-up games.
Lassiter has been seeing action in the Beermen’s pick-up games including the team’s 100-90 win over the De La Salle Green Archers at the San Juan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
