EVEN in an intense game like Game Two of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinal between San Miguel and Phoenix Pulse, funny things can happen.
During the third quarter of the Beermen’s 92-82 win over the Fuel Masters, Arwind Santos fumbled into a Shaqtin A Fool moment when he missed an unmolested dunk attempt during a San Miguel fastbreak.
Santos, at least, was able to laugh at himself.
“Dapat nga Spiderman dunk pero parang ayaw ipagawa. May pumigil eh,” said Santos in jest, referring to his trademark dunk which the pro league outlawed.
“Parang dumikit ‘yung isang paa ko kaya nag-alanganin ako. Natawa din ako nung huli. Sabi ng mga kasama ko, anong nangyari. (Sabi ko) dumikit ‘yung sapatos ko. Wala na ‘yun. At least nanalo kami,” said Santos.
Fortunately, that missed lay-up didn’t cost the Beermen, who took a 2-0 series lead in the semifinals against the Fuel Masters.
“Konting physicality compare mo sa Game One. Ang maganda dito, nakadalawa na kami. ‘Yung momentum, hindi mo mapagkakaila na nasa amin. Kailangan namin pangalagaan ‘yun at huwag bitawan,” said Santos.
“Mahirap pag binigyan namin sila isang panalo. Gusto namin dere-derecho. Kami naniniwala na kaya namin sila. Huwag lang kami mag-rerelax kaming mga players ng San Miguel,” said Santos.
