Small voice in cyber wilderness petitions TV5 to give more priority to PBA games

    Dec 2, 2013

AN avid PBA fan has spearheaded an online petition asking fellow basketball-crazy fans to join him in his quest to convince TV5, the official broadcast partner of Asia’s first play for pay league, to give more priority to the coverage of the league's games.

The petitioner, Nikko del Rosario from Quezon City, wrote a brief but meaningful letter via change.org, a online petition platform, saying the pro league's games bring joy to common folks in the country and should be aired on a channel more accessible to the fans.

Del Rosario explained that not everyone have access to Aksyon TV, TV5’s sister channel on the UHF band which airs most of the games live under the present broadcast set-up taken by Sports5 after ending its block time agreement with IBC 13.

Kung mayroon man, malabo.

Under this season’s set-up, only the main games of double-headers are being shown live on TV5 during Wednesday and Friday playdates. The same arrangement is followed on Saturdays, except that the games start early at 3 p.m.

The only time both PBA games are shown live by the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned network is during Sundays, when the league has the 3 to 7 p.m. time slot all to itself.

The change in TV schedule has caused frustration and confusion among fans, who have poured out their sentiment on social networking sites and the comments pages of sports websites.

Majority of the gripes zeroed in on the coverage of Aksyon TV, which fans said is mostly not accessible in their areas.

Del Rosario concluded his letter by inviting fellow cage fans to support his petition in the hope that the pro league’s games would be given top priority by TV5.
