GILAS coach Yeng Guiao has expressed his desire to invite Greg Slaugher to join the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the coming window of the Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Like everyone else, Slaughter is still waiting for the call.
Guiao has mentioned Slaughter as one of the players he hopes to see in his pool as the Philippine team that competed in the 2018 Asian Games gets a makeover following the departure of NBA player Jordan Clarkson.
Slaughter said he has long waited for the chance to play for the national team. But until he gets that call from Guiao, he doesn't have much to say.
“Uhm, aside from what I've been reading online, I haven't heard anything. So I'm just waiting for a call,” said Slaughter after Ginebra's win over Columbian Dyip to open its title-retention campaign in the PBA Governors Cup.
“I couldn't tell you (whether to attend practice or not). No one has contacted me yet,” he added.
Guiao, who’s still in Jakarta, admitted he hasn’t talked to any of the players that he wanted to invite once the natiobal team goes back to practice on Monday for matches against Iran and Qatar.
Slaughter said there is no doubt about his willingness to fly the flag.
“Of course. Like I said, I've been waiting for a while to play again. And, if that opportunity is there, I'd love to play,” he said.
