GINEBRA is on a romp heading to the PBA semifinals and the Gin Kings' confidence is certainly on an all-time high.
Not only are they riding high on a seven-game winning run, they're also heading into the final stretch of the conference healthy - unlike last year where they missed Greg Slaughter due to an ACL injury.
Now that Slaughter's in the pink or health, Ginebra is more dangerous as ever, evident in their 104-90 win over Meralco to complete a two-game sweep in the Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals.
"I'm just glad to be able to play. It was tough watching from the sidelines last year, my teammates fought hard then and I'm just glad to be out there fighting with them," said Slaughter who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while matching up with Meralco import Arinze Onuaku in the win.
While Ginebra ran through the Bolts in impressive fashion, Slaughter admits that it wasn't easy especially against a team which knows them pretty well.
"It's tough, not just Arinze, he's a handful, but also Meralco," Slaughter said.
"They know us pretty well, coach Norman's a good coach and when you have a guy like Arinze it makes them tougher. We really had to dig deep to get the win," he added.
Now Slaughter is bracing himself for another tough matchup either against GlobalPort's Malcolm White or Rain or Shine's Reggie Johnson.
But for now, the 7'0 center is taking it slow.
"We'll see. Don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We still don't know who we'll play so let's see."
