PETRON import Henry Sims blamed defensive lapses for a 95-91 overtime loss to Air21 on Saturday night in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“They (Express) crashed the boards hard and we gave them a lot of open looks. We had a lot of defensive lapses,” the 6’10” Sims told Spin.ph after emerging from the Petron dugout.
Sims led the Boosters with 30 points, but he only had eight in the entire second half and overtime. He said he chose to swing the ball to the open man, particularly gunner Marcio Lassiter who hit six of eight shots from beyond the three-point arc to finish with 23 points.
But then again, he also credited Air21’s defense that forced him to kick the ball out from the post.
“I believe Marcio was hot and was hitting a couple of shots. I had the ball much in first half, but when I got the ball, the defense collapsed. So Marcio was hot, we gave the ball to him,” added the 23-year-old Petron import, who replaced Rodney White more than a week ago.
Sims said they will return to practice on Sunday afternoon to prepare this early against Talk ‘N Text, which Petron will face next Wednesday in a key match.
“Every game is important, absolutely. So we have to win (on Wednesday),” he said.
