FOR Jayson Castro, the show must go on.
Despite a freak accident at home that led the team to excuse him from the game, the superstar point guard still opted to play in TNT Katropa's 109-89 win over Blackwater in the PBA Governors Cup on Saturday.
Castro called team management as early as Friday night to ask if he can excuse himself for the game against the Elite after an unfortunate accident occured ar home.
TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio declined to go into specifics, other than say a member of Castro's family was involved in the accident.
"Doubtful dapat siya ngayon', said Villavicencio after the match. "And pinayagan naman siya ng management."
But 40 minutes before gametime, there he was in his blue and yellow TNT jersey.
"Nagulat kami dahil supposed to be di siya dapat avaiable," said Villavicencio.
Coach Jong Uichico though opted not to field him in the first half, where the Texters mostly trailed before making the decisive run in the fourth quarter.
"Pagod siyempre and puyat kaya ni-rest muna ni Jong," added the TNT official.
Castro saw action in the second half and played for 16 minutes. He finished with seven points on 1 of 3 shooting and had five assists in TNT’s fifth straight win in as many games in the season-ending conference.
He hurriedly left the Big Dome and went straight to the hospital.
“Ok na naman sila,” was his curt reply when asked about the condition of his wife and baby.
