DESPITE playing with a shorthanded lineup, NLEX still flashed its potential for the coming PBA season after defeating Mahindra, 85-83, in a tune-up game in Quezon City on Saturday.
With veteran big man Asi Taulava currently with Gilas Pilipinas, Kevin Alas, Garvo Lanete, and Mac Cardona still recovering from injuries, and Enrico Villanueva coming off a flu, the Road Warriors relied on a balanced effort led by Jonas Villanueva, Glenn Khobuntin, and Jeckster Apinan.
“Everybody played well and at least our rookies had their feet wet in a PBA kind of game,” Road Warriors coach Boyet Fernandez told Spin.ph.
“We are happy about it, but we still have so many things to work on as a team,” he added. “We are still on track, though, on our team program.”
National pool member Aldrech Ramos and fellow new acquisition John Pinto shone in a losing effort for the Enforcers during the exhibition organized by NLEX.
“We tried to have games on weekends so we can review what we learned the past weekdays,” Fernandez said.
