MAKE way for ‘Angas ng Tondo’ 2.0.
University of the East top gunner Roi Sumang is sure to put his name in the pool of prospects for the PBA Rookie Draft on August 23 at Robinsons Place in Manila, his agent said.
Tanduay Light coach Lawrence Chongson confirmed to Spin.ph that Sumang will file his papers at the PBA office anytime before the August 7 deadline for homegrown players.
Chongson, who also handles former UE star Paul Lee of Rain or Shine, the original ‘Angas ng Tondo’, is also Sumang’s manager.
“Sure na yun. August 7 pa naman ang deadline,” said Chongson on Thursday.

The impending entry of Sumang in the draft adds another marquee player to the rookie list that already has the likes of Moala Tautuaa, Troy Rosario, Garvo Lanete, Scottie Thompson, and Glenn Khobuntin, Almond Vosotros, Don Trollano, among others.
The Tondo-raised guard has attracted interest from fans of Barangay Ginebra, which will be picking in the middle order of the first round of the drafting at fifth overall.
With his decision to join the draft, Sumang will no longer play his final year of eligibility with the Warriors this coming UAAP Season 78 since players from the collegiate league are barred from applying for the draft and play for their respective schools in the same year.

Chongson assured Sumang is definitely in shape as Tanduay Light regularly holds practices even though the D-League is currently in its offseason.
“Nag-eensayo siya. May practice naman ‘yung Tanduay. We just got back from Dipolog City. May konting exhibition games doon. Sa ngayon, pahinga muna siya tapos balik uli kaming ensayo,” said Chongson.
In his final year with the Red Warriors, Sumang averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
He was a member of the UAAP Mythical Five in 2013.
