THE Philippine Basketball Association will make a thorough review of the events that triggered the endgame commotion between Rain or Shine import Shawn Taggart and Phoenix deputy coach Nic Belasco in Wednesday night’s main game of the Commissioner’s Cup.
League media bureau chief Willie Marcial said commissioner Chito Narvasa is set to watch the tape of the game won by the Elasto Painters, 96-94, after climbing back from as much as a 17-point deficit.
“We’ll review the tape first and then take it from there,” said Marcial on Thursday.
So far, no summon has been sent to both parties as the league is on a three-day break for the Lenten season, according to PBA operations officer Rickie Santos.
Narvasa is expected to review the tape first thing Monday morning.
Belasco and Taggart got involved in an endgame fracas as both teams were leaving the court of the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Phoenix deputy mentor was caught on video confronting Taggart, who appeared trying to explain something while having both his hands on the shoulders of Belasco. The former PBA player then shoved the import hard on the face, prompting Taggart to retaliate.
Cooler heads intervened between the two, including Gabe Norwood and Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia.
Narvasa later caught up with Belasco and told him, 'it's just a game.'
Belasco was then summoned by the commissioner in his office at the Big Dome and was quick to apologize for his act.
Narvasa also waited for Taggart at the hallway of the coliseum, but the Rain or Shine import took a long time inside the team locker room before coming out.
