JAPETH Aguilar admitted he had a tough time playing center against Air21 on Sunday which factored into his performance in Globalport’s 106-94 loss to the Express on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The prized Batang Pier acquisition moved from his usual power forward spot to being the man in the middle to make way for their new import, Walter Sharpe, who, Aguilar said, thrives on the wings as a complementary big man.
The move evidently affected the 6-foot-10 beanpole’s performance as he wound up with just six points on 3-of-11 shooting, to go five rebounds in 29 minutes before fouling out.
“Masama (performance ko). No excuse. Medyo hindi ako nag-show up kanina,” Aguilar told Spin.ph after the game.
“Medyo nanibago ako sa position ko kasi predominantly nag-singko ako kanina kasi yung import namin yung skills niya pang-outside. Pero kahit na ganun man ang nangyari, I should have found a way.”
Aguilar was quick to add that he is not complaining about his new role.
“Okay lang sa akin yun. Kailangan ko lang mag-adjust sa bago kong role.”
The former NBA D-League draftee also remains upbeat about the Batang Pier’s chances of making the quarterfinals even after they dropped their fifth straight game following a 2-1 start to the import-flavored conference.
“Confident pa rin ako sa team namin. Mate-test ang character namin. Stay positive lang,” he said.
