SHANE Edwards had to put a lot of effort just to complete the highlight reel play of Alaska’s rousing win over Barangay Ginebra in the main game of Wednesday’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Aces import scored on a spectacular alley-oop, one-handed dunk off a dish by Cyrus Baguio on a transition play.
But Edwards admitted he had to stretch himself on mid-air to make the play possible early in the fourth period that gave Alaska a 77-66 lead.
“I really had to stretch it to get that one. I didn’t even think I can get it,” said Edwards with a smile “Luckily I caught it, was able to find the rim, and put it down.”
Edwards, who finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, said he did expect the pass from Baguio.
“But I didn’t expect the pass to be that far,” he said for the reason he had to stretch a bit to catch the feed.
Since coming over to replace the injured Rob Dozier, Edwards has been unbeaten with the Aces in four games.
Yet he remains humble, crediting his Alaska teammates for his personal perfect record.
“Tonight was a big team effort. We played a great team tonight. They came with and they battled. They fought us and I’m just proud of my team,” Edwards said.
