A FREAK accident in practice will keep Kevin Alas out for NLEX in the next two weeks of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The veteran guard suffered a dislocated finger on Wednesday and needed to undergo minor surgery that will likely force him to miss the rest of the eliminations for the Road Warriors.

Alas was immediately placed on the NLEX injured/reserve list and replaced by rookie Arvin Gamboa.
“Dislocated yung sa left ring finger, then na-overextend yung dislocated finger so lumabas yung joint kaya needed yung debridgement surgery,” Alas related to SPIN.ph on Friday.
“Wednesday morning nangyari, so Wednesday night surgery na rin.”
The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time as the Road Warriors are in the thick of the fight for a Top 4 finish in the eliminations and a twice-to-beat incentive in the playoffs.
NLEX is running second behind Rain or Shine (7-1) with its 6-2 record after a heartbreaking 98-94 loss to San Miguel.
The Road Warriors play Terrafirma Dyip on Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
By doctor’s estimate, Alas will have to sit out for two weeks before being given clearance to play.
“OK naman. Minor lang (naman). Need lang ma-dry and maalis 'yung stitches,” said the son of veteran coach Louie Alas.
NLEX will play its final game of the eliminations on May 5 against Titan Ultra.
Prior to that, the team is also set to take on Rain or Shine and Converge following its game against the Dyip.
