ON his first day of practice with Talk 'N Text, guess who Danny Seigle bumped into?
His pal Danny Ildefonso.
Shortly after wrapping up practice with Talk 'N Text on Wednesday after being signed to a one-year deal, Seigle crossed paths with Ildefonso who was at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center inside the Ateneo campus to accompany his son Sean at the gym's rehab facility.
The chance meeting, of course, was ironic considering Ildefonso - without a team after being cut by longtime team Petron days before the season - is being eyed by Talk 'N Text to shore up its frontline.
They Said It!
“I would absolutely love it.” - TnT new acquisition Danny Seigle on playing once more with long-time teammate Danny Ildefonso
“One thing he said to me was, ‘I am so happy for you, bro. I am so happy,'" said Seigle, who like Ildefonso was left in limbo after failing to come to terms with Barako Bull on a new contract days before the season.
Now he wishes the same thing would happen for his pal.
"So I told him: ‘Just hang in there… Good things happen to good people. Things will work out for you!' I am praying for that,” Seigle said.
Although there has been no significant development since sources bared Talk 'N Text's interest in Ildefonso, Seigle is unable to hide his excitement over the possibility of teaming up again with his longtime teammate at San Miguel where they won eight titles together.
“I would absolutely love it (playing alongside Danny Ildefonso again). I know he still wants to play and I know he can definitely still play,” said Seigle.
The 1999 Rookie of the Year also bared he and Ildefonso have been in constant touch even though they separated in 2010 after the San Miguel Corp. flagship team traded away Seigle, Dorian Pena and Dondon Hontiveros in a deal loathed by rabid Petron fans.
“We have a great relationship. We keep in touch during the good times, even more on the bad times. That’s when you really know, we have something special … a great bond,” he said.
“I would want to play as long as we could play together,” Seigle added.
Even before considering the Talk 'N Text interest, Ildefonso may first have to settle matters with Petron officials who, sources said, he miffed for frank comments over recent team movements - from the firing of coach Olsen Racela to the trade involving Seigle and Co.
Although unsigned, Ildefonso's rights are still owned by SMC. Aside from that, most of the businesses the Pangasinan native has put up are tie-ups with the company.
