MONTALBAN – A shoulder issue kept sophomore Sedrick Barefield from seeing action in Blackwater’s PBA Philippine Cup Season 50 debut on Friday.
Coach Jeff Cariaso said Barefield’s nagging shoulder injury has led the coaching staff not keep last season’s No. 2 overall pick out of the Bossing’s game against the Terrafirma Dyip at Ynares Montalban.

In Barefield’s absence, rookie Dalph Panopio was inserted as part of Blackwater’s starting unit as the Bossing put away an impressive 107-87 win over the Dyip.
The 28-year-old Barefield missed a total of nine games during his rookie year last season.
The Fil-Am guard however, was in Blackwater jersey and joined the team in its pre-game warmup.

"He's still nursing a shoulder injury," said Cariaso of the injury the Fil-Am guard sustained during the 40th Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament in Davao last August.
"Pagbalik namin, his practice was very minimal. He was more focused on his rehab. We thought he's gonna be ready for tonight, but he's not 100 percent."
But Cariaso talked to Barefield that if ever the Bossing suddenly need his services, he'll be on call.
"I told him I will try not to play you, but if I need you, I'll call your name. So that's what happened," added the Blackwater mentor.
