SEDRICK Barefield has agreed to play out the second year of a two-year rookie contract he signed with Blackwater ahead of PBA Season 50.
The sophomore guard exercised a player’s option in the second year of his original contract with the Bossing, staying put in a team that picked up crack point guard Dalph Panipio in the last rookie draft.
Coach Jeff Cariaso welcomed Barefield’s decision to stay with the franchise, which now has at its disposal three of the top picks in the last three recent drafts.

“I don’t know the details, but we’re able to extend him (Barefield) to another year. He extended na,” said the Blackwater mentor during the PBA Media Day on Friday at the Elements of Centris.
“Ang bilis ng one year e. So it’s hard to gauge yourself. I know a lot of these players have this attitude of betting on themselves. Yung ganun. But I think the smart thing that Sedrick did was giving himself an extra year.”
With Barefield returning for Blackwater in his sophomore season, Cariaso now looks forward of teaming him up anew with big man Christian David, who has been given a two-year contract extension, while adding no. 3 overall pick Dalph Panopio to the mix in what should be a talented trio for the Bossing.
“What’s nice is that these three are very exciting to watch, they have the talent, they have the skills,” said the Blackwater coach.
“So here’s looking forward to seeing how they lead their team. That’s really the honest truth.”
