PHOENIX Super LPG is not in a hurry to appoint a permanent head coach following the firing of Louie Alas.
Team manager Paolo Bugia said the focus of the team right now is on preparing for the possible resumption of the 2020 PBA season in a bubble, with associate coach Topex Robinson handling the team in an interim capacity.
“To be discussed yet,” said Bugia when asked by SPIN.ph on whether management is now searching for a head coach.
“For now we are focusing on the possibility of a PBA bubble and looking at Coach Topex to take the helm should it push through,” Bugia added.
Phoenix elevated Robinson to interim coach following Alas' departure, but the former is also the head coach of Lyceum in the NCAA.
That means Rpbinson has to choose between the Fuel Masters and the Pirates once the collegiate season begins.
Under NCAA rules, a head coach is restricted from handling the same position in the professional ranks.
Bugia said the NCAA rule is fair.
“I think this is only fair as when the time comes and if it comes to it, whatever Coach Topex decides on, he should fully commit to it and not be half-baked on too many things,” said Bugia.
